East West Cake update and Christmas 2013 afternoon tea!

East West Cake

We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New year and are looking forward to cake-filled adventures in 2013.

Due to our larger-than-normal venue for our epic East West Cake event with the Glasgow Bakers, we’ve got a lot more room for people to attend. Everyone who has applied so far has got a place and there’s a handful of more places up for grabs, so don’t delay in emailing us for a spot.

Although the theme is ‘showstopper’ – you can basically do any cake you like, as every cake in our eyes is a showstopper!

Christmas Afternoon Tea – Sunday 8th December 2013, 2pm – 5pm

After the roaring success of the 2012 afternoon tea for It’s Good 2 Give where over 44 Edinburgh Cake Ladies listened to a delightful choir in sumptuous surroundings and munched their way to happiness – we’re pleased to announce that this year’s event will take place on Sunday 8th December.

Yes, we know it’s only the beginning of January, but spaces at Lynne’s events go like hotcakes and if you snooze you lose.

Prices are remaining the same at £25pp as an ‘early bird’ offer.

There is a Facebook event page.

A tower of cakes!

A tower of cakes!

To take the admin away from Lynne, we’re happy to organise payment as we did before and do one transaction to the charity.

Requests for tickets will close at the end of January, or until they sell out.

Thanks to everyone who followed last year’s instructions to the letter and made life very easy for us.

If you wish to come to the afternoon tea this year, please follow the instructions below. If you made a payment for tickets last year, it is the same bank account, so you wont have to wrestle with your card reader again.

If you wish to purchase a ticket (or tickets), please follow these instructions (sorry for the rules, but it will make our lives easier).

1.  Email us on edinburghcakeladies (at) gmail.com with your request for a ticket. If you wish to buy more than one, you MUST declare it at this stage. You should write the names of the people that you wish to attend.

i.e  Alison Cake & Victoria Smith (2) – £50 total.

By doing it this way, we will guarantee you sit with the people you buy tickets with. If you are just buying a ticket for yourself, you will be seated with other lovely Edinburgh Cake Ladies.

You may only bring one ‘non’ cake friend, i.e someone not already involved in the club. There are many other supporters of It’s Good 2 Give that would also like to go to this sought after event.

2. In return, you will be given the bank account details of where to send your payment to.

3. Make the payment to this bank account CLEARLY SPECIFYING YOUR NAME so it can be linked to your ticket(s). Failure to do this causes administration headaches trying to tie the payment to the person who applied. Your payment will be immediately returned if there is no name attached. Please taken into account maiden and married names that may not match in your email / bank.

4. If your payment is not received within 5 working days of applying, we will not continue with your ticket request.

5. Once your payment has been received, you will receive an email saying that you have been successful in transferring money. At this stage, your ticket(s) are guaranteed.

6. Tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis.

7. Sorry for all the rules, but understandably if 40 people apply for tickets and 20% of them make an error, that’s a lot of paperwork (emails etc) in chasing people up.

8. We are aware this event is still a long time away, but it always sells out quickly and better to have the money in the charity’s bank account gaining interest etc.

9. If you subsequently can’t make it, then you can either nominate a friend to go in your place, or we will try to find someone via our social media channels.

If this is not possible, then the money will be classed as a ‘donation’ to the charity. Tickets are non-refundable.

10. The start time of the event is 2pm.

Cake platters and East meets West update

A lock-in at Tea at 94

A lock-in at Tea at 94

Tonight we had a ‘lock-in’ at the excellent Tea at 94 for our Christmas social event. Lots of cakes were eaten over good chat.

Thanks to Michelle for hosting us and devising a special ‘cake platter’ menu just for us.

Best menu ever!

Best menu ever!

Many cake ladies opted for the treble cake platter, but some (naming no names) chose the quadruple one! A slice of white chocolate and lemon cake, blackberry sponge, chocolate brownie pie and coconut tart. What a way to spend a cold winter evening!

Places for our East meets West cake event are still open and will close this Friday. Lots of room for this event, so don’t be put off applying for a place, we hope to squeeze everyone in!

We’re also looking for new motto for 2013. If you’ve got any ideas, please let us know. 2012 has been ‘year of the cake’ but we are sure there’s a better motto our there for 2013.

East West Cake – places open now!

We recently unveiled our plans to start 2013 with an epic cake event and our East West Cake event.

Along with our friends in the West, the Glasgow Bakers  this joint event will take place on Sunday 20th January at 28 York Place, Edinburgh.

Around a dozen of Glasgow Bakers are heading East to meet with us for a ‘cake off’.

Request your place now!

The rest of the places will be filled by Edinburgh Cake Ladies (and men). Places are aviailable to request now by emailing us at edinburghcakeladies (@) gmail.com

Please inform us of the cake you would like to make, but like the last event, please keep it a secret. We don’t want the Glasgow Bakers knowing what we’ve got planned 😉

We’re fine to have duplicates this time, but we just want to check that there’s not too many of one kind.

There are 35 places left for us, so we do hope to be able to squeeze everyone in. Should the event be oversubscribed, there will be a waiting list as there will no doubt be a few drop outs due to winter sniffles and coughs.

Closing date for applying for a place is Friday 14th December.

When East meets West……

East meets West – the Scottish cake-off!

We thought we would start 2013 with a cracker of an event and are going to hold East meet West, the Scottish cake-off.

Along with our friends in the West, the Glasgow Bakers  this joint event will take place on Sunday 20th January at 28 York Place, Edinburgh.

With our tongues very much in our cheeks, we will be having a ‘cake-off’ with our friends from the west to see who can produce the best ‘showstopper’ cake. Why not start 2013 with a massive sugar high and dive in to a selection of the best cakes in Scotland? We’ve found a larger-than-normal venue to host lots of Glasgow Bakers with the rest of the attendees made up of Edinburgh Cake Ladies, old and new.

An example of a fine cake

What to bake

We want to see a showstopper cake from everyone attending that demonstrates the best of your baking ability.

We’re not going to be judging them seriously, but perhaps we will see who can produce the most amount of ‘wows’ in the room.
No cupcakes at this one please – we’re dreaming of a roomful of cakes!

How to get a place

Ali aka @Hungrysquirrels on twitter is kindly organising the Glasgow Bakers that can come through for the afternoon and once we know how many of them are paying us a visit, we’ll fill the rest of the places with Edinburgh Cake Ladies (we will do another blog post when you can apply for your place).

There are a total of 50 places available.

Well behaved children are welcome.

The venue is a relaxed hotel with a function room (which we will use) but any Glasgow Bakers that wish to do the journey with their partners/husbands can leave them in the upstairs bar where they’ll be kept company by friendly bar staff and a 42inch tv on the sport channel.

Christmas social event and a date for the 2013 diary

Our Christmas social meeting will take place on Tuesday 11th December at the excellent Tea at 94 on Buccleuch Street.

We just can’t enough of Michelle’s lovely cakes and the homely atmosphere at Tea at 94.

It’s very much a drop in event, no need to bake anything, we’ll be purchasing cakes and drinks from the venue. Michelle has even offered to kindly make anything from her savoury menu for those who wish to come straight from work.

What time?

Just turn up anytime from 6pm (the venue is staying open just for us) and catch up with fellow cake ladies before Santa visits. Please leave email us, leave a message on Facebook or tweet us if you’re coming for a rough idea of numbers. There is also a Facebook event page.

Date for the 2013 diary

We didn’t think our Underground Cake event could be topped, but it can certainly be matched with an event in January 2013.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes organising our largest event yet (so more people can come).

The date for your diary is Sunday 20th January 2013, from 2pm.

Details, location and theme to be announced in due course.

Table plan for It’s Good 2 Give afternoon tea, 2nd December 2012

It’s Good to Give, charity afternoon tea

Please let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer make the event and we will try to get someone to fill your place (there are a whole lot of new Edinburgh Cake Ladies since we advertised this event).

Please remember what table you have been given to avoid the volunteers trying to figure out who should be where.

Underground cake – the photos

Well, on behalf of all the Edinburgh Cake Ladies, I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff from The Real Mary King’s Close who welcomed us underground last night.

It’s safe to say that the event was one of our best yet and enjoyed by all.

Here’s a few pictures of the evening. More will be added in due course, along with any blog entries from the night.

I have just donated £256 to It’s Good to Give from monies collected last night. Thank you all!

Our next blog post will be about our Christmas afternoon tea event (sold out) on 2nd December, including table plans.
