Events – September 2012

Two great back to back events to kick-start our autumn season of eating cakes!

In addition to the September baking events, you can still get tickets for the charity afternoon tea with author Sara Sheridan on Sunday 23rd at the Caledonian Hilton.

Run over two consecutive nights, we hope that everyone who wants to come manages to get a place at one of the following:

Event #1 – A Taste of Home at Musa on the Mound, Wednesday 26th September 2012

Well, that’s it then, summer is pretty much over. As autumn draws in we are starting to think about comforting bakes…things that remind us of home. With this in mind the theme for our September event is A Taste of Home.

It could be a cake that reminds you of your childhood, your family’s favourite pudding or something that native to your homeland (we know there are a few Cake Ladies out there from afar!). Whatever your bake is, we are sure it will tell a story.

We are opening the baking field out to all bakes this time round. We’re talking cakes, savouries, tarts, biscuits, pastry, traybakes, dough – anything goes really, we know it will be eaten!

Our venue is Cafe Musa

A Taste of Home will be held at 6.30pm (6.45pm dig in) Wednesday 26th September at Cafe Musa on The Mound. Katey who is on twitter as @Edin_eats and Victoria @21_urbhousewife have kindly volunteered to host this event

Request places now

If you’d like to apply for a place send us an email by 6pm Monday 17th of September.

Please email your first and second choices of bakes in case of duplicates. Places are not allocated on what you are baking – it is just easier to do the admin for the event with the baking choices in place.

You can email us now at – edinburghcakeladies (at) gmail (dot) com

There are 20 places available for this event. If the number of people requesting a place exceeds 20, a waiting list will be created.

The twitter hashtag for this event is simply #cafemusa as there is a Tasteofhome twitter account which relates to America.

Event #2  Bake and Shake night – Thursday 27th September 2012

I recently met the lovely Joanna from Edinburgh’s AGA shop who has invited the Edinburgh Cake Ladies to a ‘Bake and Shake’ night at the Frederick Street shop.

From 6.30pm on Thursday 27th September, we have been invited into the wonderful shop and their demonstration kitchen. We will bake in small groups with the aid of two AGA specialists who will help explain the difference in using an AGA compared to a regular oven.

Whilst the cakes are baking, there will be a belly dancing class by a local instructor in the upstairs kitchen (participation is optional). This will allow people to shake away some calories, before filling themselves up with the cakes fresh out of the oven.

This event is especially suitable for novice bakers who will have experienced Edinburgh Cake Ladies and other bakers on hand to ask questions and guide them in how to make a (perfect) cake.

There are 15 places for the evening and tickets are only £5 each.

Included in the ticket price is: refreshments (tea/coffee) throughout the evening, the belly dancing lessonn and all ingredients you need to make the cakes.

For the first event, the AGA shop will decide what we are making and have all the ingredients ready for us to use.

Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis and via the AGA shop only. Details in the picture below but you can pop into the shop or phone them and pay with a card.

The twitter hashtag for this event is #EdinburghAGA

Let’s Bake and Shake with AGA

If you are attending this event, be sure to take along a tupperware box to take home the leftover cake.

I am sure both events will be lots of fun and I am upset I’m missing them, but sunshine and foreign cake beckons for me!
